To all.

IF HE HAD HIS DROTHERS -- With two high-bandwidth delivery systems almost ready for widespread deployment into America's living rooms, many in the industry are wondering whether to place their bets on xDSL or cable modem technology. Although Cirrus Logic is working on both systems, its chairman and CEO Michael Hackworth seems to have already lined up behind xDSL. Although both the cable and telephone industries have problems with establishing the necessary infrastructure, he told Today's EN that the telcos seem reluctant to allocate the front-end funds to upgrade their systems, and that cable modems might provide the right motivation. "The cable industry might be one of the triggering events to move the telcos to implement DSLs," he observed. And does that mean his cable R&D efforts are aimed primarily at pushing the phone companies in the DSL direction? "That's why cable modems are a secondary priority for us," said Mr. Hackworth.
