I think flood insurance is subsidized by the federal government. Not sure, we don't live in a flood zone, but had to get a certificate to that effect when buying insurance for our own house.

I have been going to the Florida panhandle every summer for years, and it just keeps getting more and more built up. Places which used to be pristine are now all covered with new construction. This year and last year the water was really dirty, not the pure emerald green that I love.

Thinking I may start flying to the Caribbean for summer vacation instead.

I used to dream about retiring to Florida but doubt I could afford it now.
