Samsung Electronics has raised its contract prices for 1Gbit and 2Gbit NAND flash chips this month, according to sources with IC distributors in Taiwan.

Samsung 1Gbit NAND flash is being quoted at about US$9 and 2Gbit chips are at US$16-18 this month, the sources said. The respective August prices were around US$8 and US$16.

The new quotes are slightly below current spot prices. According to DRAMeXchange, the average respective prices for 1Gbit and 2Gbit chips were US$9.34 and US$18.30 on September 8.

In related new, sources said Samsung is allocating more NAND flash chips to module makers and distributors in Taiwan since the module makers are expecting demand to pick up in the fourth quarter. However, DRAMeXchange noted yesterday that Samsung is increasing supply to its branch offices worldwide.
