"When we occupy a Muslim nation, tell its people that they "want freedom and democracy" and that they "will not have an Islamically ruled country," and then start killing those among them who will not roll over and show their stomachs, we create the perfect terrorist storm. And that's what is building all across the Muslim world."

I agree that this is at the heart of the issue. I consider it, however, an educational issue. I have made a few attempts to engage persons here in the context of, 'why Islam and Democracy are compatible concepts.' I have not found any interest (beyond a pat on the head) and that is with the people here who are supposedly promoting Democracy to Islamic culture.

So, underlying the current of our affairs is the faulty notion that Islam and Democracy are by nature contradictory. That is a problem that needs to go away before ANY real progress can be made in reconciling our culture with ME culture.

Beyond that, we are doing everything else we can to contain the situation.
