"We owe our soldiers something BEFORE they die. ... a clear, meaningful and achievable mission."

The mission was to defeat the regime of Saddam and support the restructuring of Iraq to fill the gap left by Saddam’s Regime. I agree that the mission has been altered or redefined in some respects. Mostly in that it wasn't detailed enough at the start.

Clarity: This seems clear to me. We have a choice on what to support at this point. The choice is between 1) the barbaric and brutal blood bath that would ensue if we pulled out now. This would be primarily among and between regime builders represented by Al-Quaida Wahabi Sunni radical extreme groups and Shi’ite radical extreme groups. It would in-site the activation of radicals and moderates alike across the 1+billion population of Muslims. Each would be supported by homogeniously in-lined ethnic and religious political groups and countries. In addition outsiders like France, Russia, etc would be supporting what ever effort was most likely to represent its interests. The natural resources are of course in the interests of the global community so that engages a far broader spectrum of interests. 2) Support the establishment of a democratic government that ensures the security of all groups and individuals within Iraq, and which brings the country into the realm of a global community.

I pick door number two.

Meaningfulness: We are all human and our meaningfulness is generally associated with endeavor that points to a noble existence among our fellow human beings and all of creation. It is more noble to seek a Peaceful coexistence among our peers than to conquer and subdue them in our subservience. It is also noble to encourage such relations among our kind around the globe. We seek to have Peace in our individual hearts by knowing that we have behaved without disregard for our noble responsibilities and that we have conducted ourselves with regard to the well being of all. This is not accomplished in the absence of conflict, since conflict is as natural a part of our daily endeavor as deciding which color of socks to wear (which is not even conflict free). Conflict involves the notion of problem solving with the goal of doing the right thing. In the case of human endeavor the highest levels of ‘right thing’ involve self discipline and in taking a stand on principle in spite of personal comforts or desires that may be in conflict. The greatest social principle is living with liberty where all are afforded justice in their experience. Where such is denied it is meaningful to take a stand against the culprit.

Achievable Mission: The only thing standing in the way of achieving liberty and justice for all are those human beings who would deny it for their fellows. Take a stand against them and you have struck a blow for this the most noble of achievable missions as we have demonstrated time and time again.

Do our soldiers have your support in this noble mission?
