Lizzie and Brian, Before going the managment route, I was trained by Saul Alinski's Instiitute in Chicago as a community organizer--the same person who trained the organizer of the grape growers in California.
Three of the basic rules of organizing is: (1) Do not get into a fight which you can not totally win, (2) the purpose of any large number of people in an action (demostration) is to create a huge reaction on the other side who has be classified as an enemy and (3) the threat of an action is greater than the action itself.
IMO, Bush senior, in Gulf War I, did it right when he stayed out of Iraq, and keeping Sadam in power to hold the Shites, Sumi's and Kurds in check by acting as the Iraq policeman. The threat of our invasion on Sadam was great in that it was forcing Sadam to allow the inspectors in Iraq without the USA have to spend huge capital (money and lives). However, when you use the action then as Colin Powell, stated, "President Bush, you invade Iraq, you own Iraq. I, have talked with various service personnel expect us to be in Iraq for at least 10 years from now.
Listening to Greenspan yesterday, I do not know how we are going to finance social security in four more years when the baby boomers begin to retire, medicare, medicaid, healtcare, the Iraq War, Terriosm and the deficit. The cost and interest on the debt will eat us up. Then, we have Greenspan saying that the education system must be fixed to the point of producing more math and science graduates for the high skilled jobs coming on board in the US and high tech being outsourced outside our country. However, with us in Iraq, we got to try and win it to avoid the lose of US prestige like Vietnam. Personally, I do not believe we can win the War of Terriosm, but suppress it since the terriost has caused us to over react and they are now using our actions to organize their millions in a religous War against the West, and now Russia. They are fighting a small man's war of terriosm. How can you defend our schools, malls, downtowns, etc. without arming all of our people/
Yes, I am voting for Bush for economic reasons, but personally, I belief he made big mistake in the invasion--we will suffer the consequences.
Did any of you see Chamber's on the Charley Rose show last night. He gave his vision ahead for CSCO--networking the World.
