"The point of my post was that some religions are not tolerant at all."

Really? I am not aware of a world religion that would agree with your declaration. I am aware of some bigots and hypocrites that conduct themselves intolerantly and who justify their behavior through religion. That may be why most religions lean heavily on that word, 'hypocrite'. Its a pretty common problem.

"If you don't see that potential for injustice then it's you who are a "bit revisionistic" in your view of history."

Really? It might be useful for you to study some of our own history. In the early days people were burned, tarred and feathered, skinned alive, hung, dunked etc. under religious authority.

"Remember that "ancestors fled" thing? Ed

Right. They fled oppression and persecution...but were themselves very religious. Remember the 'Puritan' thing.

Even so, the seeds which eventually brought us together as a people tolerant of one another's beliefs were a commitment to liberty and justice for all. These seeds could sprout and grow now in Iraq as well but would need support from those willing to be gardeners of freedom.
