Law offices did have dedicated word processors in the 1970s. Wang came out in 1976. I tried to get a job using a Wang at a law firm in the 1970's but they said no unless I already knew how to use it, the lady who knew how to use it quit and they couldn't train me on it, even though I am a very fast typist. Weird codes.

There were earlier dedicated word processors, too. Maybe some specialist at IBM or Xerox PARC remembers.
