cbsnews article about possible forged bush national guard records "scoop" previously aired on 60 Minutes:

cbsnews.com

These two lines are the punch lines here.

The network defended the autheniticity of the memos, saying its experts who examined the memos concluded they were authentic documents produced by Lt. Col. Jerry Killian

and

Independent document examiner Sandra Ramsey Lines said the memos looked like they had been produced on a computer using Microsoft Word software. Lines, a document expert and fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, pointed to a superscript — a smaller, raised "th" in "111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron" — as evidence indicating forgery.

These memos were unsigned and supposedly written in the 70s, Jerry Killian died in 1984.

Now, either the kerry supporters behind this apparent forgery are completely inept, or bush supporters are responsible for deliberately releasing this in order to incite a backlash. The Kerry organization, with clearly experienced political pros, is unlikely to be this disingenuous, hence the possible Bush organization source for this comedy, if one was inclined to consipiracy theories. ;)

Either way, 60 minutes' experts who did not realize that a superscript "th" was not a feature of typewriters in the 70s really do have eggs on their face.
