The most telling aspect, IMO, is that in every instance where the "th" is NOT superscripted, you find a space between the last digit of the number and the "t" -- something that is necessary in Word to keep it from automatically doing the substitution. OTOH, where the superscript appears, there is no space.

There are other aspects, however -- most notably, the Times font. I would also argue that the type resolution, even after faxing and scanning, is far too good to be that of a typewriter.
