Rather is taking the position that it doesn't matter that the documents are faked, the content is what matters.

It doesn't matter that the documents were generated 30 years after the events, twenty years after the alleged author died. The person who generated the documents recalled the alleged author's intentions with such unimpeachable clarity that there is no reason to question their veracity.

Who is giving Rather these talking points? I have a hard time believing that Rather is this foolish. He's been told to stick to the Big Lie for as long as he can because the allegations will only become more widely disseminated as long as the story has legs.
