The "th" superscript is one of the potential red herrings that really don't help Rather but can confuse people who are not good with details.

Out in the Blogosphere you can see copies of Bush's own documents which show a "th" superscript that was clearly made with one key, using an IBM Executive typewriter, which also does proportional font spacing, but NOT kerning. The forged documents have kerning.

Kerning is a way of putting letters together so that they fit up against each other better. It saves space, but more importantly, looks more attractive. A typesetting machine kerns, and so do word processing programs. So either the docs were produced on a specialized typesetting machine or on a word processor.

For the ordinary person this is a "mego" issue ("my eyes glaze over").

Same with the curly apostrophes.
