Regarding lysine, I should add that I feel that there is always a market for a new "medicine" even when a potentially legitimate folk remedy is available. This is because, originally in the West and now all over the world, most people believe in "modern medicines." The first example that springs to mind: If I were going to a country where malaria was endemic, I would always choose chloroquine tablets over gin and tonics (quinine) to keep the malaria away. Even despite the fact that a gin and tonic tastes a lot better than chloroquine.
