The national Democratic party remains one dominated by east and west coast liberal elites with disdain for the heartland, its people and its values.

I continue to find those maps of which states favor which candidate fascinating. Kerry's support is from only a relatively few vote rich states, like California and New York, home of, as you say, the coast liberals. Bush rules the heartland of America.
