Clinton decimated our intelligence services during his 8 years, but I don't blame Clinton for 9/11. Basically, an attack on American soil was inevitable. Very few people saw it coming. The timing has more to do with how long it took for the kettle to boil over, rather than whether it was any individual President's fault.
The great question that no liberal has been able to answer is how would they solve the terrorist problem? We know appeasement doesn't work. We only have to see what happened to France both prior to WWII as well as in today's issue. France appeased Hitler and was rewarded with a German invasion. France appeased the Muslims and was rewarded with the kidnapping of French journalists.
When people are filled with this much hate, there is no negotiation. There is only one solution and that is to stand up and fight for your survival. Luckily, we are the mightiest nation on the face of the earth. So the terrorists picked a fight they will most certainly lose. So as we neutralize the terrorists, we have to build for the long term as well. And that does not mean abondoning Israel, which is what the Arabs and Europe would like us to do. Instead, we need to systematically bring self-determination and freedom to the entire Middle East. If people like Bashar Assad or the Ayatollah Khomeini get in the way, then they need to be neutralized as well.
It was ok for the U.S. to be peaceful and not try to unseat the theocrats and autocrats in the Middle East, when their agents were leaving us alone. But now that we have been attacked, we have to go on the offensive and ensure that they can't continue to inspire, fund, and spread terrorism. The war will probably get worse before it gets better, but that's the only way we'll emerge with a safer world. |
