My husband is stomping around complaining about "f*ing no-win wars." The air is blue, but I am hearing complaints about Clinton and Carter, not to mention Truman stopping Macarthur from winning in Korea.
Then general rants on Vietnam, Bosnia and Somalia, not to mention Fallujah. Well, there is a lot of mention of Fallujah.
Boiled down to a nutshell, "why go to war at all if we aren't going to try to win?"
I tried "well, wars are fought not only by soldiers but politicians."
He countered that politicians are not the ones getting their asses shot off.
Then he stomped off and turned on the TV, sounds like he's watching a movie and fuming. ;^)
Did I mention that he's related to General Emory Upton, the brilliant military strategist, who helped win the Civil War, and after whom a major building at the War College in Carlysle PA was named? I think caring about war is in the blood. The house is full of war games everywhere.
Not everyone is good at war. The ones who are seem to care deeply about their men, as well as good at waging war. It's an art, a science, a caling.
As for Barnett on Kim Jung Il. Barnett is a big picture guy, but he's rational. He can't comprehend irrationality, that's his weakest point, probably. |
