Patron, I spent a week doing an architectural tour of the Quarter last year and was stunned at the intricate canals that were there to keep the water at bay. I knew the city was built below the levies but did not realize that it was so much below sea level until then.

Many of my most favorite childhood memories had to do with New Orleans and Mardi Gras. Some of my family were in one of the Crews and we always attended Mardis Gras. I remember it as more of a social event (black tie, gorgeous evening gowns) and not the vulgar drunkathon that it is now. Such a unique social culture, one of the only truly unique cities left in the US (Malling of America, etc). My hopes are that is somehow dissipates to a 2 to mitigate damage. I wish Ivan on no one.
