Interesting. In spite of his suspension, AS (or a surrogate, perhaps - isn't that grounds for extending AS's "vacation"?) has banned me from his thread. For what, I do not know. I discovered that I was banned when I tried to respond to this post:

Here is my PM reply, in which I invited the poster here to discuss the article he posted - if he wishes to do so:

Apparently, in spite of AS's suspension from SI, I have been banned from the thread on which you posted to me, so here is my reply:
Your first mistake was misinterpreting the column. Your second was in misquoting Mr. Helprin. Here is the full, correct quote (emphasis added, italics indicating the portion you quoted out of context and bold emphasizing the complete message), which clearly conveys an entirely different meaning than you claimed:
"our polity divided into support for either a hapless and incompetent administration that in a parliamentary system would have been turned out long ago, or an opposition so used to appeasement of America's rivals, critics, and enemies that they cannot even do a credible job of pretending to be resolute."
If you can't see the difference between your interpretation and Helprin's real message, then I have no interest in conversing with you further and suggest you refrain from posting to me on a thread where I am apparently (and inexplicably) banned. If, OTOH, you would like to discuss this article further, then feel free to post to me on the following thread:
