John Kerry Can’t Fool Enough Of The People Enough Of The Time

By Brooks A. Mick
Sept. 13, 2004

Back when Reagan was president, the left wing said, “Yeah, he can talk great, he’s an actor, but he’s stupid.” But he wasn’t. He was one of the brighter, more well-read presidents we have had, as his own writings and documents have shown in the past few years.

Now, wish George W. Bush, they say the opposite: “It is not so much that he is not particularly Presidential, that he is linguistically challenged and unable to project the image of a intellectual statesman.” And then, rather arrogantly, condescendingly, superciliously, they say, “Perhaps that is what the American public want.” There is no great and necessary correlation between fluency, being a smooth talker, and being principled, intelligent, and correct. Just ask all the women who have been snowed by slick talkers! And look at Bill Clinton, for heaven’s sake!

They say, tiresomely, over and over, “He took America to war on a false premise - by mistake (?) - but shows no remorse or sense of responsibility for the error.” But the reasons for war were never so single-minded. If it were a multiple choice question, “Why did we go to war with Iraq?,” the answers would be: A) Because we thought he had WMD. B) Because we are at war against Islamofascist terrorists and we will take the war to the enemy wherever he resides. And Bush clearly defined, in the Bush Doctrine, that the enemy was not only the terrorists, but those who trained, harbored, financed, or otherwise succored the terrorists. And Saddam clearly was in this camp. C) At the end of the Gulf War, Saddam signed a treaty in which he agreed to perform certain actions and refrain from others, and he clearly didn’t live up to the agreement, and therefore we have a clearcut right and obligation to resume hostilities. D) It is impossible to create a Fortress America and stop all terrorists at our borders. Therefore we must drain the swamp which breeds the terrorist mosquitoes. And the primary breeding ground is in the repressive Middle Eastern governments. We have to start somewhere, and Iraq is as good a place as any and will give us a base from which to pressure Iran, Syria, and others. It will allow us to pull troops out of Saudi Arabia. E) None of the above. F) All of the above. The correct answer is F!

Now not all has worked out exactly as planned, but nothing does in war. We improvise, adapt, and overcome.

They say, “On his watch, we have found out that the USA has behaved every bit as badly towards Arab prisoners as the propagandists used to tell us. And interrogation techniques that are clearly torture have been legally approved…” Well, no. Most of the abuse documented is of the sort that many people pay a dominatrix big bucks to be “forced” to endure, such as being blindfolded and made to masturbate! This is a far cry from the tortures used by Saddam, and it was NOT legally approved. In fact, the people who did it are being prosecuted now, and there is no evidence anywhere that they were ordered to perform these acts by superiors.

They say, “He has prevented the American public seeing news footage of their own soldiers returning dead. The one moment that could possibly give meaning to their deaths, when we can honour their sacrifice, has been taken away for political convenience. Shame on him!” Well, no. The people saying this don’t want to honor our soldiers, but to use them for political propaganda purposes to decrease America’s will to continue the long war on Islamofascist terror.

Personally, having served off and on since 1959 in the military, including 3 times as many months as John F. Kerry in Vietnam, I did and still do defend the naysayers’ right to say what they will, but I don’t have to believe it and I don’t have to like it . They are getting more and more desperate as defeat stares them in the face. Since the old and oft-repeated propaganda hasn’t worked, they have taken to rather clumsy fabrication of documents. That isn’t going to work either, thanks to the internet and its horde of cyberexperts.

Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” Bill Clinton said, “But I can fool enough of the people enough of the time.” But John Kerry and his hysterical, extremist, fanatic anti-Bush minions can’t fool enough of the people enough of the time. Not even with the help of CBS and Dan Rather.
