Dr J. was talking about HDR at the Feb 2000 annual meeting. I don't recall hearing anything about HSDPA for much later, probably until 2003. For a long time it wasn't clear if there would be an HDR proxy on the WCDMA track. Indeed Andrew Viterbi was emphasizing the separate channel for data and was much behind developing HDR before leaving Q and joining the board at Flarion. Is first mover equivalent to having an IP advantage? Not always, but often it does. So what are the precursers for HSDPA from other companies? Who contributed important IP besides Q and where did this IP originate?
