Gus > Occam's Razor - the simplest of two or more competing theories is preferable and that an explanation for unknown phenomena should first be attempted in terms of what is already known

Yes, I am familiar with Occam's razor but I regard it as no more than an aid to arguing that the status quo is always preferable to any notion that it isn't. In fact, by pretending that it's something clever, the last word, no less, it puts a stop to any progress which can come from intellectual activity. If Occam were to have had his way, we would all still believe the earth was flat, or was the center of the universe and that god made heaven and earth and us -- all in one week.

Indeed, and apropos 911, Occam would tell us that the "official" version is correct -- that OBL & Co hijacked four aircraft and flew them into buildings etc because he doesn't like the "freedom" of Americans. Can't get much simpler than that and Occam would be cheering.

No, I'm sorry to say that complex phenomena frequently do require complex explanations. Reductio ad absurdum doesn't do it for me. And, until we actually know what happened on 911, I will consider it to be a complex event where each aspect requires study and explanation.
