The great question that no liberal has been able to answer is how would they solve the terrorist problem? Liberals propose solutions all the time but the right, particularly the neocons, in their arrogance, think they know best. Events of the past 3 years have shown them to be very wrong. We know appeasement doesn't work. We only have to see what happened to France both prior to WWII as well as in today's issue. France appeased Hitler and was rewarded with a German invasion. France appeased the Muslims and was rewarded with the kidnapping of French journalists. France appease the Muslims? When? Where? They did no such thing. France has a significant Muslim population and must be more careful on its public stances. However, France is led by a strong right of center leader.........he has cracked down on the French Muslims on a number of levels. His latest move........banning women with head scarves from public buildings...................is a stupid and utterly senseless prohibition. The result: France's Muslim population is up in arms. Don't confuse Chirac's knowing when to fight and when not to fight with appeasement............there is nothing appeasing about Chirac. He is confrontative, arrogant and French...........a very bad combo. As to how we deal with Islam........we fight them when we have to fight them..........such as with the theoretical war on terror but not in Iraq. Our pro Israeli stance must be tempered. We must stop screwing with ME politics...........the West has been doing it for centuries; the US for decades. Our general policy must be designed to encourage democratic reform. And finally we must wean ourselves of our oil dependency. This will take time.............and will not be easy. However, following Bush's approach will eventually lead to world war. Muslims make up 1/3 of the world...........they can not be ignored nor can they be fought as Bush is doing now.
