Brian, Thanks for moving over to this thread.

RE: " No democracy.....so what! What kind of answer is that? "

1. Food is more important. (Maybe this is a hard concept for Americans that have access to an ample food source ?)

2. Imagine if you were a female in a country where the average citizen wasn't pro-female rights. How receptive would you be to Democracy if a Taliban-mob was voted into power by the "people"? If the majority of the people have a particular belief on a matter that would hurt you, why on earth would you want them to rule you, if you were a female? Again, pretend you are a female and pretend that you live in a country where there's enough Taliban-like thinking that could potentially be voted into power by the people.

3. Education is needed for Democracy to work.

RE: "Your side(the left)"

I speak for myself.

RE: "refuses to acknowledge that CERTAIN PEOPLE are responsible for the terrorism we see.....these people are muslim. Why not call a spade a spade? Muslims are responsible for nearly all of the terrorism we see today"

If you are good with mathematics, you would understand "many terrorists were muslims" does not equate to "muslims are terrorists."

This is basic logic. GRE stuff.

RE: " you make the ME sound like this halcyon place"

You never asked me what I think about the ME. You only assume you know what I think.

RE: "I know anthropologists who have lived in the region and have a very clinical view, and who share my views. You just don't seem to get it."

Well, I have friends in the Middle East. Sorry your anthropologist doesn't know any of them, apparently.

Again, the point I continually respond to is the generalizing statements "Muslims are crazy", which is simply wrong. I believe you can understand this point (even Mindmeld does.) If we can get past this point, we might actually be able to discuss this topic at a higher level. Could we please?

Regards,
Amy J
