We are in a critical period of our societal development. At times like this innovative leadership is called for. The methods and strategies that were deemed necessary in our older history have periodically become viewed as barbaric and obsolete. As civilization has developed we have imposed limitations on our selves and others that crippled opportunities to engage in barbarism (ex: The Monroe Doctrine).

I suggest we look again at what is a reasonable step to take as the only super power in the world who has the ability to model the way for others. We already have limitations to certain ‘freedoms’ when the exercise there of can be viewed as a violation of another’s liberty. You can’t, for example place a ‘Whites Only’ sign in the window of your restaurant. Such a sign is clearly just an exercise of speech but it also clearly harms another persons ability to live in liberty and under a just society.

For starters: I think we should have a policy against governments and entities that have a conquering agenda, even though we were at one time the Conquistadors of America.

We should also have a policy against any kind of targeting of innocents. I note that we don’t have a clear delineation for innocents vs enemy. However, as GST has noted we are at a war of hearts and minds as much as we are at a war of material power and control. So, perhaps we should be working on documenting these delineations and distinguishing ourselves from our enemies, instead of trying to justify tit for tat actions with evil groups.
