GST, what is it that makes Taiwan part of China? Historical attachment? That would as much make it part of Japan, or independent, or part of Britain.

In the modern, civilized, world, we do things by negotiation, and elections, referenda etc. Quebec considers seceding from Canada and if they choose to do that, then that will be that. There won't be a war.
Why is it not the case that China is rightfully part of Taiwan? I suppose you are in favour of might makes right. Which of course means the USA is quite right to attack Iraq, or Iran, or Syria, or North Korea, or, heck, why not China and take over China and Taiwan too, after all, Britain used to rule large chunks of the world and swarms of those people moved to the USA so their descendants have the right to re-establish rule, just as you think the descendants of some people who used to run China can take over Taiwan because they want to.
More likely, is that China will take over Taiwan in the same way that Japan is taking over New Zealand. Which is much more successfully done with financial success than military success.

There's our son, having been taken over, living in Japan. Hmm, hang on, who is taking over whom? He is working on cyberspace for a Japanese company. He used money they are giving him to buy a swanky Vodafone W-CDMA cyberphone, which has a QUALCOMM ASIC in it and to whom a 5% royalty was paid and guess who owns QUALCOMM. Moi! I hire Americans, Koreans, Chinese and others to run QUALCOMM and develop CDMA and they deliver me the profits.
If China gets sufficient financial oomph, then Taiwan would be very dependent on China, just as NZ is dependent on Australia and the USA, who pull a few strings.
China is quite insane to be even thinking of militarily attacking Taiwan. It's to be expected from reactionary, atavistic, belligerent, envious, greedy, domineering people, just as Adolf wanted to be big time in Europe. That doesn't mean the rest of us are wise to let them get away with it. As you might have heard, appeasement doesn't work.
China should just get with the programme, buy CDMA cyberphones by the billion, and do like the USA and Oz do with NZ. NZ was historically part of Australia too and both were part of Britain, but time has moved on. We didn't have wars over it and all get on quite well. Hu Jintao has been down here to try to understand how to do things and is learning. I hope he doesn't copy our bad things!
