The MSNBC documentary on 1971 was amazing. You really cannot discuss this accurately without seeing it. yes, Kerry was amazingly potent in getting that war to end. Yes he did make remarks which many found offensive, and for that he did apologize. He was also viciously attacked by the rightwing including the FBI.

On the Watergate tapes we hear Nixon order Kerry "destroyed". And boy did they try. But they failed because Kerry and his vet friends were for real. Nixon suspected they were phonies but they 99% real heros with real stories to tell and in the end the truth won.
When the rightwing attacks the Winter Soldier hearings now they forget these were 99% real heros with real truths to tell. They also forget 56,000 American guys killed and 300,000 wounded for no good reason.

It brought tears to my eyes at the end of the show when Kerry embraced the dying Nixon decades later and Nixon smiled from ear to ear. If Kerry were to run that in an ad he could defeat the Smearvets instantly. Also when Colson apologized to Kerry for hurting him. Now if only the Smearvets would apologize. They have done this country great harm, not just Kerry. They have lied. They have also harmed heros like McCain. They have lied. This cannot stand. Now onto real issues though -
