Oh yes.

I think the worst part of giving a relative or friend a computer is the ongoing tech support that is expected.

I just spent the better part of the last two days cleaning a computer that I bought for a relative about a year ago. Despite constant urging on my part the relative in question never installed an anti-virus program (AVG is free), never installed spybot s&d or Adaware. Consequently after the pc kept crashing about 30 seconds after boot up I went over and picked it up. Did a whole lotta downloading of trojan and worm removal programs along with AVG (with my computer). Burned them to CD's. Did some registry editing..reinstalled a missing shell.dll in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. Got the machine to stay on long enough to install the various anti-trojan/worm/virus programs ...ran them and removed in excess of 150 various nasties.

An XP re-install would have been easier.

I'm not a drinker (anymore) but I'm thinking Miller Time!
