| T, When I was in the Army at Goodfellow Air Force Base (I know. I was surprised I wasn't transferred to a Naval base after that. <G>) in San Angelo, Texas, the pay phones were controlled by GTE. The zoomies went around rigging them so they'd refund their money, the company would half-ass fix the problem for a few days, and, then, every once in a while, the money would come pouring out like a slot machine. I was very lucky on that front. And, since I always made collect calls, nobody could get burned. But my buddy, who was in the Navy at Goodbuddy, found a Zoomie Major's wallet in a phone booth, so he won the jackpot on that one. And he didn't share any of the cash. Of course, all enlisted men believed that stealing from officers was not stealing, it was getting even. <G> |
