Will Tim Robbins And Susan Sarandon Condemn This?

By Captain Ed on Media Watch

A chill wind blows through America, threatening freedom of speech and the independence of the media. Is John Ashcroft to blame? No ... this time it appears CBS has decided to crack down on the criticism coming from its affiliates who have been less than pleased with the level of journalistic integrity at 60 Minutes and with Dan Rather's performance. The AP reports that a radio talk-show host has been fired for his outspoken criticism of The Dan:

A radio talk-show host said Saturday he has been fired for criticizing CBS newsman Dan Rather's handling of challenges to the authenticity of memos about President Bush's National Guard service.

"On the talk show that I host, or hosted, I said I felt Rather should either retire or be forced out over this,"<font color=blue> said Brian Maloney, whose weekly <font color=green>"The Brian Maloney Show"<font color=blue> aired for three years on KIRO-AM Radio, a CBS affiliate here.

Maloney says he made that statement on his Sept. 12 program. He was fired Friday, he said.

Let's get this straight. The First Amendment protectors at CBS feel just fine in broadcasting forgeries to smear a sitting President during an election cycle, but they have a problem if their affiliates go on air to criticize them for doing so? Apparently, Dan Rather can attack Republicans at will, but Black Rock brooks no such impertinence from its own staff or from its on-air personalities.

Hypocrisy, thy initials are C-B-S.
