Fred Bergsten Snooze-Fest in the Economist.

Hi Everyone,

I'm coming back to the boards after 3 mos off, as I became a father of a healthy baby-girl this Summer. Yahoo!

Meanwhile, I have just finished reading Fred Bergsten's piece in last week's Economist. It was like eating un-leavened bread--without any butter.

I was struck at how stuck he remains in old, hoary paradigms in his "By Invitation" piece on "risks to the global economy." Specifically, he really believes if the dollar would go lower it would correct the trade deficit, and, he also believes OPEC is still in control of global oil.

As I catch up on my reading from the Summer: FT, Barron's, Economist, etc--there seems to be an unlimited Conventionalism in economic commentary. Nothing new here, but it's instructive to take a break, and see things afresh.

Cheers,

LP
