Is this just a reprise of the standard Libertarian line against the draft? Myth is that everybody was gung ho to get into the fighting in WW2. Fact is they weren't and that's why a draft had been started even before the war and a great many draft age men did their best to avoid getting caught by it.

In previous periods of conscription, too, many refused to cooperate. During World War II over 5,000 went to prison for their beliefs.
