I don't even have an IRA. My cpa handles the tax details, although I pay the premium to sit down and map out how to best use the IRS's bureaucratic mess to my advantage. Like spreading income among other family members, etc, to remain in the low-end tax brackets. And since I do this for a living, I can claim each trade's profits as income rather than capital gains if I choose to -- which can have its own advantages. Even with short-term capital gains taxes, I still pay less than most people at 9 - 5 jobs.
