My husband actually started watching "The Wire" with me last night. I had to explain who everybody was. Did it seem to you like Deangelo might actually still be alive? I thought we saw his funeral?

Anyway, got a kick out of the towers coming down. We drove to Baltimore to watch that in real life. I love explosions.

One reason I love the show so much is that it reminds me of New Orleans, the parts I grew up in. We lived in the St. Thomas project when I was a kid and my dad was in dental school. My mom was a legal secretary full time but we still were below the cutoff line due to family size. Having to pay for full time child care (a full time maid!) and private dental college (Loyola) qualified us. Funny, no? Edit: maybe something to do with the GI Bill? I'll have to ask my parents.

Anyway, it's a hell hole now. Cops are afraid to go there at night. It was all white when we were there, but white people won't live there now. They feel safer in homeless shelters.

There are places like those projects all over America. Sad but true.

Socialist paradises. "Worker housing" where nobody has had a job for generations.
