I would have preferred seeing a viable Dem candidate.

It would have been cathartic for the country to hash out the Iraq war and Bush's policies. I would still have supported Bush, but I think it would have strengthened his hand to go back in office after a national referendum on the war was decided in his favor.

The way it is, Bush will still be doubted in his second term because the Dems ran an unelectable candidate who could not present an effective challenge.
