Pioneer introduces a Java-based DVD authoring tool.....

Pioneer Announces DVDesigner Latest DVD-Video Development and Design Tool

LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1997--Pioneer New Media Technologies, a leader and technical
innovator in optical disc technology for industrial, computer and home entertainment, has developed a new authoring design
tool for producers and publishers of DVD-Video titles.

Pioneer demonstrated an alpha version of DVDesigner last week at the Optical PRE Conference in San Jose, Calif.

DVDesigner is an off-line authoring tool that allows DVD-Video developers to organize and manage DVD-Video assets, plan
interactive logic and present various video, audio and graphic elements for their DVD-Video titles.

"DVDesigner lets the producer concentrate on the creative aspects of developing a DVD-Video title," said Andy Parsons,
vice president of Product Development and Technical Support, Pioneer New Media Technologies. "The program integrates
the DVD-Video specification and shields the user from having to know the numerous details and technical jargon while
developing a DVD title."

As DVDesigner manages program assets and logic, it checks to make sure the user has not stepped outside the bounds of the
DVD-Video specifications.

DVDesigner employs a user-friendly graphic interface designed to run on both laptop or desktop computers. With its flow
charts, timeline metaphors, straight forward language and video production terminology, DVDesigner makes DVD-Video
production easier; leaving all the technical conversions needed for DVD pre-mastering up to the software.

"Pioneer is committed to making DVD-Video title development as easy as possible," said Parsons. "We want to help guide
title producers and publishers through the development process and let the program handle the technical details, which can
sometimes become cumbersome and intimidating."

When the design and organization of a title is complete, DVDesigner will output data in a file format that can be read by
Pioneer's pre-mastering/authoring system at its replication facility in Carson, Calif. The data from this file will be used to create
the final pre-master needed to master and replicate the DVD discs. DVDesigner will also output a generic authoring decisions
list and parameter information so it can be used with other pre-mastering/authoring systems as well.

A key member in the DVD forum, Pioneer is currently producing consumer DVD, LaserDisc and DVD-Video players for
home entertainment and DVD-ROM drives for the computer market. Pioneer also provides DVD-related services, including
DVD-Video compression, pre-mastering/authoring and DVD disc replication.

"Our DVD-R (write-once) drive and industrial DVD-Video player will also soon be available," said Linda Toleno, vice
president of Multimedia Sales Marketing. "We believe DVDesigner is an important addition to the overall DVD infrastructure
Pioneer has built to assist producers and publishers in creating and delivering the highest quality DVD-Video programs."

DVDesigner will be available in November 1997 and will list for $495. It is a Java-based program and will run on both
Windows 95 and Macintosh-compatible computers.

The Multimedia Systems Division of Pioneer New Media Technologies, with headquarters in Long Beach, is the leader and
technical innovator in optical disc technology for industrial, computer and home entertainment. Pioneer New Media
Technologies is a subsidiary of Pioneer Electronic Corp.
