The drop must be due to the news of IBM settling on the PCMCIA card patent infringment. 3Com has a hell of a lot more exposure than IBM in terms of PC cards produced, assuming of course that there is some validity to the patent claim. What we don't know is the terms of the settlement. It's entirely possible that IBM may have paid very little to get released from the claim, but at the price of remaining silent so the patent holder can squeeeeeeeze something extra out of everyone else.

Ugly day, to be sure.
