Energy Storage
One of the few drawbacks of wind power is it's variability. There is no power when the wind stops blowing, and for that reason wind is not considered a "firm" power source. In order to stabilize wind turbine output, Sea Breeze Power is exploring two options: hydrogen and electrochemical energy storage.

In the fall of 2003, Sea Breeze entered into a collaborative agreement with VRB Power Systems Inc., distributor of the VRB-ESS electrical energy storage system. The VRB-ESS is based on the patented vanadium-based redox regenerative fuel cell, which converts chemical energy into electrical energy. The VRB-ESS serves as a buffer between a variable energy source and the requirements of a power contract.
