And Danny boy told us they got the memos from
an "unimpeachable source", which we now know is Bill
Burkett.

Allahpundit picks up an interesting line from the Newsweek story, which says that rumors of the memos were circulating in media and Democratic circles for weeks. If that's true, then CBS was late to the party, as we now know they got them only on Sept 2nd. So who had them before? Who gave them to USA Today? If all Burkett did was try to peddle them them to Cleland & the Kerry campaign without success, then who started the rumors? Allahpundit shares my skepticism that Burkett by his lonesome could have turned into CBS' "unimpeachable source" without at least an inferred corroboration by somebody else. I know Rather & Mapes were a willing audience, but that willing? We still haven't unravelled this ball of string completely.
