Agreed. I think another politician could have made better use of the goodwill the U.S. had after 9/11.

I hate to say this, because I am a Republican, but I honestly think Gore might have done better. Gore was big into two things: technology and the environment. So his natural reaction to 9/11 might have been to launch the U.S. on a do or die project to eliminate our dependence on M.E. oil through innovation on new technologies like hydrogen fuel cells.

If I had been President, that's what I would have done. In fact, I would have made it my goal to boycott all M.E. oil purchases by 2008. And I would have made that feasible by legislating mandatory annual increases in mpg averages, as well as introducing punitive import taxes on M.E. oil and used those taxes to fund corporate R&D on alternative car energy as well as tax credits on alternative fuel car purchases.
