RATHER: The failure of CBS News to do just that, to properly scrutinize the documents and their source, led to errors in our reporting. CBS News deeply regrets it.

That might have worked if the documents had been good fakes. It's not going to fly after CBS spent 10 days standing behind obvious forgeries, even refusing to investigate them at all.
