What I'm saying is the benefit if we're successful in Iraq will be huge, as evidenced by Germany and Japan.

Another difference (in terms of the payoff) is that Japan and Germany, with their well educated, disciplined, hard working populations turned into the economic juggernauts of their regions.

Sorry, but all that Iraq has is some oil. It would be an INCREDIBLE leap of imagination to see Iraq and the Middle East as a potential industrial powerhouse 50 years from now. So the payoff in Iraq likely does NOT include major semiconductor, automobile, pharmaceutical, consumer products and other related companies. Maybe you'll get the econimic benefit of increased tourism to Baghdad, but anything that requires significant organized hard work from the population isn't coming from that region in this century......
