<<< With all due respect, what is the point of having an empire if we aren't willing to accept that we have one, including the up sides, as well as the down sides?

Pretending we don't have an empire isn't going to make it go away.

We have an empire, and may as well be good at it.>>>

It is not that we couldn't do it or that it is not a good idea, but it is a little too late for that.

There is nothing in the Constitution or in the writings of the founders of this country that suggest Empire. I don't even think Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagen thought empire.

I hope George W. (with all his deep learning and stuff) doesn't get Empire into his head - even with the help of Cheney. It requires a lot of thinking. It requires a lot of the vision thing. The Empire vision will not come out of a legislative subcommittee or blue ribbon panel.

Term limits are not good for emperors (after all who will rule an empire except an emperor).

It's is a good thing we have term limits. As it is George W. is about to win re-election and we are thinking Empire. If it were not for term limits, you would probably want to name George W President for Life.

Sheesh. Thank god for the founders of this country. They knew what they were doing when they set up the Presidency and not anything else.

I doubt very much that Presidents will have much to do with visions. Presidents are more like Chief Executives. The vision thing will most likely come on just like the Internet came on - or the Womens Movement - or the Civil rights Movement and someone will emerge from the crowd and get elect President.

In other words I doubt it will be the other way around - meaning a person becomes president and his vision becomes our vision.
