Personally, if the Iraqi elections come off even reasonably well I think this action will begin to wind down. Their security services are slowly but surely coming to be. Eventually they will be able to handle most of the terrorists, unlike Vietnam at least right now we dont have a civil war there. The people fighting this are fighting AGAINST their own people and their OWN DREAMS. I suspect by this time next year we will be talking about the draw down of troops. As to a draft, I know of no Republican leaders that are for it. Given our druthers, I would THINK a volunteer force would be far better SO FAR as our DEFENSE FORCES are considered. A professional army is always going to be better trained and better motivated then a army of draftees just because of reenlistments and motivation. Seems to me if we ever truly need a draft short of some type of World War, it would be to GUARD OUR BORDERS. Thats a situation where we just need a lot of BODIES, not specifically highly trained. jdn
