"The first glimmerings of an Israeli spying exercise in the USA came to light in spring 2001, when the FBI sent a warning to other federal agencies alerting them to be wary of visitors calling themselves "Israeli art students" and attempting to bypass security at federal buildings in order to sell paintings."

Bizarro stuff...I remember these "students" coming to my workplace. There was a group of them going around to all of the companies in the industrial complex that we were located in. The one that visited us was strikingly beautiful. Most sales type people were given a quick exit, but this one got the full attention of the CEO thanks to her charms. At the time I figured it for a money making scam. No way some Israel art students (that happened to excellent poise and sales skills) end up in the middle of the Midwest by accident to sell paintings. But it makes little sense that they were there to case us (we had no security of any sort to penetrate and no great secrets to steal)...unless they were just randomly probing businesses in the US.
