Good point, but I'd like to think that with freedom, comes education and economic development of Iraq, which will ultimately benefit the Iraqi people and the whole world. The alternative is a cesspool of terrorists who are motivated enough to acquire WMD and eventually kill millions of people, not to mention the economic costs of allowing these terrorists and their ideology to proliferate.

So although the costs of what we're doing now is staggering, the costs of not democratizing the M.E. are probably also staggering.
