<< The obvious question I have is why Lightpath as opposed to all of the other companies working on DWDM? >>

It's not an either or proposition. I have shares of Tellabs and Lucent, and have owned Ciena as well. I like others prospects such as Nortel, Uniphase, Corning, etc. but have never purchased them yet. I follow about 25 companies that have some relation to WDM but I don't want to muddy up my portfolio with all of them so I decided for myself that TLAB and LU were my top two. Now I like to add a little salt and pepper to my steak so LPTHA and APAT fit the bill. They were the most attractive micro-cap candidates. I got a little bored with APAT just sitting there so I bailed out of that and am watching it closely out of the corner of my eye. I ruled out going long on Osicom and decided to go short. I am taking a long look at UNPH and will purchase it as soon as I can figure out when/why it is dropping after a seemingly glowing earnings report.

apart? >>

Hopefully, yes. That's what their company seems to be founded on. This technology seems to have numerous applications so the WDM aspect is the icing on the cake. They seem to be doing alright selling their lenses for wafer inspection and endoscopes etc. so I'm willing to wait . There are other technical reasons why I like LPTHA and APAT but I don't know if you want to hear about them.
