I consider what we have now in Iraq a very large country that is recovering from decades of misrule, over a decade of painful economic sanctions and a very short war, with pockets of protracted armed conflict.

How do we evaluate the cost-benefit analysis? How many living Iraqi children are equivalent to one dead or maimed American soldier? What is the value of being able to go to a school that has computers? What is the value of being able to have your own business? What is the value of being able to vote? To worship freely?

Maybe you have a calculator for that one, I don't.

If Kerry gets elected President, I fully expect you to develop, all of a sudden as if out of the blue, patience and tolerance for the vicissitudes of the process. Somehow having one man as President will make you happier than you are if there is another man as President.

For me, the process is the process, it doesn't matter who's President. It's messy, and it will stay messy, but eventually it will be much better.

Can Kerry do it better? I doubt it. If there were easy answers we'd already have them.
