Agree with all of your points and I've done a ton of reading on the Middle East, so I know what you say is likely true. However, consider this: if the terrorists really wanted democracy and freedom, then why aren't they giving it a chance in Iraq? It's the best chance that Arabs have ever had for democracy and freedom. I'll answer for you. There are two reasons. First, these terrorists aren't interested in democracy and freedom. What they want is power and if they have to kill innocent Iraqis in their headlong rush to kill American troops, they will do it. If we did pull out now, I can virtually guarantee you that a democratic nation would NOT emerge. Instead, it would be an Islamic theocracy just as brutal as the Saddam regime or complete civil war.

I think you are making a mistake confusing Iraqi insurgents with al Qa'ida terrorists. The Iraqi insurgents are Sunnis who don't want to play the minority role in an Iraqi gov't. They are used to being on top. They are terrorists but imo not with the same MO as al Qa'ida.
