Since you live in Canada, why would you want the housing bubble to burst here? The loss of that deduction would devastate middle class families, so it's counterproductive. I know that losing the stupid interest deductions on credit cards hurt! Now I have them paid off. If a person has his own business, the tax write-offs from auto to insurance, to you name it, are almost criminal, but the poor working person has only his mortgage and a few other lame-o pittances to counter his ever increasing tax burden. In fact, after paying taxes on earnings, the average citizen is further burdened with taxes on purchases, taxes on telephones, taxes on gas, property taxes. I have to respectfully disagree with your position.
