Only for the very thick. If the next candidate was a monster (and I guess several decades of political life would show some signs of inclination towards genocide and the like), I guess the electorate would hold their noses and vote for the inadequate guy they have in power.

Personally, I am actually beginning to think that perhaps it will be a good thing if Bush stays in power. Iraq will continue to be a mess, and get worse before it gets better (as several Republican senators rightly pointed out the other day), whoever gets White House in November. If Kerry gets to be Prezy, then it will be the Democrats' fault. They will have botched it. Perhaps it is a good thing for Bush to drown in his own mess and for the American people to realize the folly of exporting American values at the point of a gun...
I would probably still want Bush gone if I were American and had a dog in the fight, though. As it is, as more body bags come home, I will just feel sorry for their families from afar.
